PATH has led the state of Hawaii in Safe Routes to School programming for the last 9 years, including the first Walking School Bus at Waikoloa Elementary School. Safe Routes to School is a national movement directed at creating safe ways for kids to walk and bike to school. Walking and bicycling to school provides children with exercise, fosters a sense of independence, reduceds traffic congestion and air pollution. Children arrive at school alert and ready to learn.
